About Me

My name is Sami Mills Seppälä. I am a Chartered Linguist (Translator) with over two decades of experience in translation, proofreading, editing, and terminology management. I have a BA and an MA degree in English, French, and Nordic Languages from the University of Helsinki, Finland. I have also studied in Sweden, France, and the UK. Based in Scotland, my preferred language pair is English into Finnish. I have both British and Finnish citizenship.

I am specialised in Information Security (antivirus, antispam, archiving, authentication, backup, firewall), Legal (End-User License Agreements, Privacy Policies, GDPR, Terms & Conditions, Terms of Service), Online Advertising (Google Ads & Analytics, SEO, SEM), Gaming (PC, console, mobile, and online), Software Localisation (UI, Help), Documentation (user manuals, brochures), and Marketing (websites, emails, documents).

Main strengths

Translating and writing for computer games and IT magazines helped me adopt a pragmatic and creative attitude towards translation. My main focus now is on the purpose of the text and the target audience.

My experience in customer services has made me mindful of customers' expectations and appreciation for good service. Listening to and speaking with customers has helped me put myself in their shoes.

Over two decades in various roles in the translation industry (as a translator, reviewer, terminologist, and language owner) has made me an all-round localisation professional.

Professional affiliations

I am a Qualified Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (SKTL), Finnish Information Security Association - Tietoturva ry, and The Finnish Information Processing Association (TIVIA).

Continuing Professional Development
